Dysphagia
Dysphagia is a condition wherein an individual faces difficulty swallowing. In other words, the ingested food in an individual takes longer to reach the stomach. This condition is painful and distressing. In the advanced stage, swallowing may become completely impossible.
The sporadic struggle in swallowing may not be a matter of grave concern. But facing frequent difficulty in swallowing may require immediate medical attention.
Dysphagia is not an age-specific condition and may occur at any phase of life. It is more common in older age groups as compared to young.
Causes of dysphagia.

- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
Symptoms of Dysphagia
Many presentations might indicate that a person is experiencing dysphagia. Below are a few of them.
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Pain while swallowing
- Choking sensation while gulping food, especially in the chest region.
- Dribbling of saliva
- Roughness in the throat and upper food pipe
- Regurgitation of food
- Frequent hyperacidity
- Burning sensation in the throat

- Cough while consuming food.
